How our family grew

Thirteen years ago, I moved into my first place. On my own. Just me. I had 3 beds, 1 bath, fenced yard and just me.

I enjoyed it, but it didnt take long for me to start thinking about adding a pet. After considering adopting a dog, and perhaps taking care of my parents senior cat, I landed on adopting a kitten.

I asked a friend whose significant other is a veterinarian if he ever got any stray kittens. And bonus points if they were black. And I got lucky. He had a feral momma cat with a litter of 4 black kittens. I signed up for one. And then changed my mind and asked for two males.

And within a month, George and Mio moved in with me. Their adoption day is June 25, 2006.

It was great. Two little furballs who kept each other entertained while I was at work and then kept me company when I was home.

A year later, I started dating my now husband. Luckily, he's a cat person. And the boys liked him.

Then in August 2008, we got married and he moved in.

Five years later, as we were planning our 5th wedding anniversary trip, we found out we were pregnant. So, we set up a nursery and welcomed baby number one in March of 2013.

The cats adapted well to a mini human in the house. Which is good because in April of 2015, we added another. And then another in October 2016.

Shortly after baby number three, we moved into a new-to-us home. For a few years, we kept the same ratio. Until I saw a post on Facebook from a friend who had a litter of four tortoise kittens that were dumped in her yard.

At first, even though I wanted to take one, we didn't speak up. About a week later, we checked to see where the kittens ended up and if they were still available.

Two of them were. We talked it over and decided to adopt.

And on November 6, 2018, Pepper and Petoskey moved into the playroom.

And that's our story.
