The Ears Have Been Pierced

I mentioned a while ago that Robin got his ears pierced and they looked so good that Batman wanted to get his done. Well, he did. And then about 6 months later, Batgirl finally got hers done too.

The rule in our house is that kinds can get their ears pierced once they turn 9, because that's when I got my ears pierced. Last summer, we decided that we would fudge the dates a bit so that Batgirl could get her ears pierced during the summer just before she turned 9. And Robin had been asking to get his done as well. So we made an appointment for both of them at the end of June. Robin got his done, but Batgirl decided that she wasn't ready.

When we went back in July for Robin to get a new pair of earrings, Batman got his ears pierced, but Batgirl still wasn't ready. And that's ok.

She decided in March that she was ready and we picked the first Sunday of Spring Break so she would have time to adjust to them before going back to school. And she did it. She was nervous, but she got through the piercing like a champ. Which is saying something, because both of the piercing devices had some difficulties and she had to get one ear pierced twice.

After the kids got their ears pierced, I created an aftercare tracker for them. They could take responsibility for their own ear care (asking for help as needed, of course). It was great. They all ended up taping the tracker to their bedroom door, so I could just glance at it as I passed by to make sure all was going to plan. It was great!

If you have a new piercing in your house, head on over to my Etsy store to purchase the tracker today
